    Anyone else notice that it never says anything about what happens to the 7 mages afterward? Just a thought, but they might BE the barrier. It takes 7 human souls to defeat 7 other human souls.

    What about the amalgamates? They were injected with DETERMINATION and probably have a bunch of extra soul power. Also the amalgamates are a ton of monsters fused together so that's a bunch of extra souls.

    About that increased population. Its wrong soooo wrong. Monsters have very VERY long life spans at minimum they can live for 4k years. And considering the entire under ground had to equal to lets say .9 souls of power. Just take that number and multiply it by average population growth rate. But the growth rate for monster s is very very slow. If they did expand at the same rate of population we did by 1.1% per year. They'd over populate real quick. The birth death ratio considering monsters have such a long life span the growth rate is very minimal.
