  • Welcome back to The UnPopular Opinion! The UnPopular Opinion features different takes on films that either I hated, but that the majority of film fans loved or vice versa. We have always hoped this column will promote constructive and geek fueled discussion. Now, with us entering the visual world, you can get pissed off in a whole new medium!

This week, we take a look at Disney's JOHN CARTER. Widely looked at as one of the biggest disappointments of all time, Andrew Stanton's first live action film was a critical bomb as well as a box office disaster. But, even seven years later, JOHN CARTER is one of the most fun and enjoyable fantasy epics of all time. Check out the video above as I make the case as to why this movie is not only vital viewing but a film that gets better with age.

Oh, and if you have any suggestions for The UnPopular Opinion I’m always happy to hear them. You can send along an email to or spell it out in the comments below. Provide me with as many movie suggestions as you like, with any reasoning you'd care to share, and if I agree then you may one day see it featured in this very column!

On my 40th birthday I was in Bahrain in The Middle East for work and happened to have a day off on that day. So with nothing else to do I went to the cinema and watched 3 movies that day. One of them was John Carter and I LOVED IT!!! Exactly as was stated in this video, it was masterfully made with a great story. Kudos for following your heart with "The Unpopular opinion".

The writers took pages out of the books and threw darts at them. Then they threw in moronic alien conspiracies. Add to that the Micheal Bey Transformer technology that had no place in a John Carter film. Results you had people exiting the theater and telling people in the lobby, don't bother. You could spend billions on marketing and this would still be a bomb. Nothing in this film made sense together. Oh it may have hit all the popularity check boxes, but so did the Edsel.
