To be honest, this to me, is better then a homer at your first AB. This was absolutely incredible, especially with all the suspense and it being the 13th inning, two runners on base, the count being 1-2, and there being two outs, PLUS the rookie’s batting! I couldn’t ask for more from a rookie. He’s got a great arm, he’s fast, he’s really nice and spirited, and he’s overall a pretty good hitter so far. Laureano is the man!!

I love all the enthusiasm from the rest of the team. For example, Khris Davis saying “Hold on to that,” Matt Chapman stopping Ramón to get a hug, Jed Lowrie play fighting, and Buchter with that sly second pie in the face to Ramón.

Iglesias tried MULTIPLE TIMES in the 13th to screw the tigers over because for 1, he had a little pop up to shallow center (Laureano could’ve called lowrie off but he didn’t so it dropped) and he could’ve had 2 if he hustled but no, he threw his bat down in disgust and just jogged down to first, then when he realized it was dropped, it was too late to try for second. Then he makes a bad play by trying to get on the wild throw from lucroy. I don’t think I would’ve taken that risk to move up 90 feet. Leave it to the hitter to get a solid base hit to get Iglesias home. And laureano, he’s gonna be something special, especially with that speed. Damn
Edit: I will also say while watching some of his at bats, he seemed REALLY impatient. He was swinging at pitches not even CLOSE to the strike zone, and they just seemed like waste pitches. But hey, he got the walk off hit and made some really good defensive plays so I’ll let it slide lol

He was initially overlooked and paid his OWN way from the Dominican Republic just to try out for MLB. The Astros then drafted him but made the mistake of trading him to the A’s before even trying him out on their roster. Laureano said, “They would have traded me for a freakin’ Pepsi-Cola....I understood....It’s part of baseball.” Great to see his passion and hustle!
