Disney Princesses are one of the strongest brands and ideas in the entertainment company’s collection of franchises. However, it’s becoming increasingly clear that Disney is changing their princesses.

These changes are spurned by the many longstanding issues with Dsiney Princesses and how many of these traits are more problematic than ever today. That’s why Disney is rebranding these kinds of characters as heroines and changing the kinds of stories they appear in. Newer Disney Princesses have far more agency than their predecessors and their updated motivations let them do more than save their community while trying to marry a guy.

It’s great that Disney is modernizing their female protagonists and making them better role models to the children they are meant to inspire. Only time will tell if the company commits to making these characters heroines, but for now at least the problematic elements that defined these leading ladies for so long are starting to recede.

Cinderella did not go to the ball to meet a prince. She just wanted to go to the ball and to have A NIGHT OFF!

Ariel was NOT under the influence of Prince Eric. She loved the humans LONG before that.

Jasmine wanted to marry someone THAT NOT think that ”SHE’S a prize to be won!

Aurora didn’t even know that she was a Princess until her good 🧚🏻‍♀️ told her that she was a Princess

As a woman, I want to live a domestic life. That’s okay. I wanna live a lush life and not have to work! I like that some women get to be powerful. But I just think it should be okay to like both. Is that right?

the problem with modern Disney princess isn't the old stereotypes its the RE-BRANDING of them making them not a princess but a woman. to change the idea you ruin that idea. as I learned in the military not all change is good. as we've all seen in the latest remake movies of Aladdin and the lion kings. the nostalgia is there but they took what made those movies great and got ride of those pieces and made the remakes bland and dull. the modern princess is kind of the same. yes the new ones are more heroic and more independent, which is a good thing for modern ideals but don't take the history away from the originals that brought us to this point. so far I love each and every one of the Disney princess tile you take the sparkle that was those ladies to begin with then its just a useless cash grab with no substance.

Again with the clickbaity thumbnails. You talk about all the changes Disney is making to their classic Princess lineup, but you're basically doing it based entirely off Wreck It Ralph 2, and yet you show the live-action Little Mermaid... or fanart/teaser art of her, at least. Why? It's inaccurate and tacky.

I know! They should make a movie where it's a feminine role rescuing a man in distress as a "kiss my ass our movies are phenomenal!" For real, what if Cinderella was a man? xD All of their movies have a good meaning and story. I think realistically everybody wants to find true love, whether it's their main goal or not. I was also half-expecting there to be a comment on a lot of disney princesses being white.
